Creating an account

You need an account for exactly two things: buying Pro, and syncing your board between devices. The board itself, all four item types, both free views, and import and export all work without one.

1. Click the crown in the header. Signed out, the dialog is titled Sign In to Upgrade.

2. Switch to the Sign Up tab. Name is optional; Email and Password are not. The password must be at least 8 characters.

3. Click Create Account. You are signed in immediately; there is no confirmation email to wait for.

Signing in with Google

Where the sign-in form shows Continue with Google, you can use your Google account instead of a password, in the extension and on the web dashboard. The first time, it creates your TabOasis account from the address Google has verified and the name on your Google profile, with no password. After that, the same button signs you in.

If a TabOasis account already has that address and a password, you are asked for that password once, to connect Google to it. From then on either one signs you in. Connecting signs out every other session on the account. Get the password wrong and you start again from Google.

TabOasis never sees your Google password and gets no access to your Google account. What it keeps is listed in What we store and why. An account created with Google has no password, so deleting it asks you to sign in with Google again instead. On a server that has not set up Google sign-in, the button is simply not there.

The same dialog is where you buy: Subscribe Monthly, Subscribe Yearly (marked Save 33%) or Buy Lifetime. Checkout opens in a new tab on Polar, which sells TabOasis for us. If you finish paying and the extension still shows Free, come back to the crown and press Check Payment Status.

Once you have a license, the crown dialog becomes Pro License and shows your plan, status and validity, with Manage Billing for Polar’s billing portal and Dashboard for the web dashboard.

Signing in does not upload anything

Signing in does not copy your board to the server. Sync is manual in both directions: you press Upload or Download yourself, under the gear → Cloud Sync.

Three extension sign-ins

A license covers three browsers running the extension. Signing in from a fourth does not fail. Instead, it signs out the oldest of the three, and that browser drops back to Free until it signs in again.

Signing in to the web dashboard does not use a seat. Only the extension counts. You can see both lists, and end any session you do not recognize, on the dashboard’s Devices & sessions page.

If you forget the password

An account you created with Continue with Google has no password to forget: sign in with Google. Otherwise, reset it from the web dashboard’s sign-in page: Forgot password? emails you a link that works once and expires in an hour. The extension has no reset of its own.
