Keyboard shortcuts

TabOasis binds shortcuts in three different places, and it matters which is which: only the first can be changed, and only the first works when TabOasis is not the page you are looking at.

The one browser-level shortcut

This is a Chrome command, registered with the browser. It is the only shortcut that reaches you on a page TabOasis does not own.

On the TabOasis board it opens the overlay. On an ordinary website it opens the overlay too — but only with a Pro licence, with Spotlight search on web pages switched on, and with the extension allowed to run on that site. All three are required and none of them announces itself; see Spotlight search.

On the board

These work on the TabOasis new tab page. None of them fire while your cursor is in a text box, a text area, a dropdown or a rich-text editor — typing always wins.

Three of those have a detail worth knowing.

Only Ctrl/⌘ + Shift + Space closes Spotlight again. All three openers are toggles in principle, but the other two are suppressed while your cursor is in a text box — and Spotlight’s search box takes the cursor the moment it opens, so by the time you press the key again it is already ignoring you. The browser-level shortcut is not routed through that check, which is why it alone works both ways. Ctrl + K with the overlay open is claimed by the result list instead and moves the selection up; ⌘ + K on macOS does nothing at all; and / simply types a slash into the box. To close it, use Esc.

Shift + V cycles through the views you have enabled, and skips any that your plan has locked. If you turned Calendar off under Preferences → Enabled View Modes, it is not in the cycle. If every other view is locked, the cycle comes back round to the view you are already in, and pressing it looks like nothing happening — a free user on Kanban stays on Kanban, with no prompt and no upgrade dialog. The in-app help calls this “Cycle view mode (Kanban/Widgets/Calendar)”, which undersells it: Focus is in the cycle too when it is enabled and unlocked.

Ctrl/⌘ + A is deliberately not taken outside selection mode. Press it on an ordinary board and you get your browser’s normal select-all, as you would expect. It only becomes “select every card” once you are already selecting.

Inside Spotlight

Note and task bodies use a rich-text editor. Mod below means Ctrl on Windows and Linux, ⌘ on macOS.

Every toolbar button also shows its own shortcut when you hover it, so that is the place to check if this list ever falls behind the product.

Not a shortcut, but the fastest route

Typing bm in the address bar and pressing Space hands the address bar to TabOasis. See The omnibox.
