Install
TabOasis replaces the page your browser shows when you open a new tab. Once it is installed, every new tab is your board.
-
Install TabOasis from the Chrome Web Store.
-
Open a new tab. Instead of the usual page you will see an empty board with the heading Your board is empty.
-
Optional, but worth it: pin TabOasis to the toolbar. The toolbar icon opens a small window that can save the page you are on without leaving it.
What TabOasis asks your browser for
Section titled “What TabOasis asks your browser for”Chrome lists the permissions when you install. Each one pays for a feature you can see:
| It asks for | Because |
|---|---|
| Your tabs and tab groups | Prefilling a bookmark from the tab you are on, and opening a saved Group Bookmarks card as a real Chrome tab group |
| Storage, without the usual size limit | Your board, notes, uploaded backgrounds and music live in the browser, not on a server |
| Notifications and alarms | Task reminders and the “session complete” alert from the Pomodoro timer |
| A side panel | Showing your board in Chrome’s side panel |
| A right-click menu item | Save to TabOasis on any page or link |
| Access to the sites you visit | The Spotlight search overlay, which can open on top of an ordinary web page |
That last one is the broadest, so it is worth being precise: the only thing TabOasis puts on other websites is the search overlay, and that overlay is switched off by default. See Spotlight search.
